A Magical Roleplay Mechanic: Magical Decay
Magical Decay: A Study by Magus Lusarth The Redeemer
“It has been noted that mages of a particular strength suffer from a disorder of magical origin. These mages haves surpassed mastery in more than one of the Schools of Magic.
Symptoms:
- Bluish Veins, showing the overflow of mana in their body - A shortening of breath - Increasingly powerful outburst of magic - Mana leaking - A blackish aura - Memory loss
Magical Decay eventually results in death, stemming from the breaking down of the mortal body. The mortal body is deemed an unfit container to continually use the abnormal amounts of magical strength that it has amassed, and the godlike power eventually destroys the body, returning it to death.”

How nice. But can a person be a lich with such power? A creature brought back from death with no bodily functions to do except to keep the magic in, surely should be able enough to ascend to the level of gods.... Kinda.

A normal mortal body can't contain the energy. It's like water in a vase. No matter what you try, the water will always overflow at a certain point. Smart mage regularly releases energy so as to not...overflow.

Thus creating an excuse for Mages ransacking cities xD How so? Magical Decay doesn't correlate to what you said in the least, or your character.
